 |
Welcome Info Pack & A-Z Street Directory |
You may have already heard that a ‘London A-Z’ is an essential purchase for finding your way around – we’ve included one in your pack so you’ll get this London bible straightaway! In addition to this we have also put together a collection of indispensable maps and guides to help you get acquainted with your new city - as well as get lots of ideas and inspiration for what’s now on your doorstep!
 |
UK Bank Account |
As you have probably heard opening a bank account is far from straightforward and many would even say it has become ‘mission impossible’. Fortunately we are able to offer you a fast-track system in place with one of the country’s leading banks meaning we will be able to arrange your bank account quickly and easily. This is a non-fee paying account and you will receive a current and a savings account. The account includes an international debit card and allows you full free access to telephone and online banking.
 |
Fee Free Money Transfer |
Transferring funds from country to country can be an expensive process so you’ll be happy with this part of your package that no only offers this for free but also with conversion rates that are much more attractive than your average bank. Subsequent transfers organised at very favourable rates.
 |
UK SIM Card |
Having a UK number before you arrive will give you a head start when it comes to finding work. We provide you with the number before you leave so that as well as being able to give it to friends and family you can also add it to your CV (resume) before you send it out to employers.
 |
Mobile Phone (if purchased) |
Some mobiles (cells) cannot be used in the UK – it is advisable that you confirm with your network provider whether you can use your phone over here. If not then we can provide you with a Mobile Phone – our phones are always Nokia. Our mobiles are ‘Pay As You Go’ (pre-pay) which means you top up the credit yourself as and when you need to. We are also able to offer competitive contracts so you can benefit from cheaper rates and establish that much important credit rating.
 |
National Insurance Appointment |
t is a legal requirement when you work in the UK to have an NI number. Your NI number is similar to a social security or tax file number and ensures you pay the correct amount of tax. It also gives you access to a whole range of services including a reciprocal health scheme with our National Health Service.
 |
Monopoly Board Pub Crawl |
Once a month runs the pub crawl of all pub crawls – beginning at 11am you will be escorted from pub to pub based on the layout of the famous game. Just make sure your liver is ready!
 |
Monthly ‘Black Tie’ Invite |
On the opposite end of the scale are our events where we frequent only the best venues in the city. Be it dinner at the Ritz or Afternoon Tea at the Four Seasons best dress is required. So it’s the perfect excuse to pack that cocktail dress and Jimmy Choo’s – guys the heels are optional!!!
 |
5 Days Gym Membership |
There is an amusing expression about the Heathrow Injection referring to the weight gain when you arrive in the UK. Not that anything is going to deter you from enjoying what London does best – pubs and cuisines from all over the world. But to help out Fitness 1st have offered you a 5 day membership of any of the national gym network.
 |
London Social Events Group Membership |
In addition to receiving the much needed advice and assistance with those arduous arrival formalities you’ll also get invites to a variety of different weekly events – we run a monthly events calendar. All in all our packages offer a complete arrival experience to ensure you settle in both professionally and socially!

Accommodation |
Finding a place to stay is probably one of the most difficult tasks when coming to live and work in the U.K, being new to the country means you probably won’t know very much about what options are available to you or how to go about arranging them. One thing you must certainly avoid is arriving here without having pre-arranged some temporary accommodation – it is too big and too busy a city to be able to do this.
So, the most important thing at this stage is to make sure you have somewhere to stay when you first arrive. If you haven’t worked overseas before then remember that you are going to have a lot to do when you first get here. Getting everything together before you start takes time and energy so the last thing you need is additional stress from worrying about accommodation.
Here are some of the options you may want to consider:
 |
Homestay Accommodation |
If serviced apartments and Studio’s are too expensive and you just don’t think you are right for a hostel then what about a Homestay? Arranged for 2 or 4 weeks or longer you will be placed with a local host (can be a single person, couple or family) who will provide a welcoming, homely and comfortable base for you to feel at home. Better news still is that for around £150 per week you also get breakfast and an evening meal included! All the Homestay accommodation is assessed to ensure it meets with the British Council standards.
We have had many successes arranging this type of accommodation and think it offers an ideal base from which to search for long term accommodation.
 |
Studio Accommodation |
A Studio is generally an open plan space where there is a kitchen and bathroom adjoining the living which doubles as the bedroom, the sofa is usually a sofabed or pulls down from a wardrobe style unit. Studio apartments available all within Zone 2, situated in northwest London (Zone 2) all within five-minute walking distance to a tube station, either Queens Park W9 or Willesden Green NW2. Most apartment blocks have coin operated laundry facilities with linen provided. Apartments are an ideal temporary solution whilst you look for long term accommodation.
All apartments are open plan and have, power shower & own W/C and are fully furnished, including toaster, kettle, pots & pans, cooker, fridge, wardrobes & colour TV. Also have security Intercom, full fire alarm and smoke detector systems.
Getaukjob have pre-purchased 100 packs that will be supplied free to candidates attending a Contract career interview at BITE Consulting in London.

Hostel Accommodation |
More sociable than hotels, lots of communal spaces such as the kitchen and TV / restaurant / bar areas. Rooms are geared toward the younger so most rooms are multi-share 4 people upwards. Some of the hostels have single and double rooms but the price you pay is not as attractive as the dorm rates.
Hostels are very affordable especially if you don’t mind sharing with others, however it really takes a certain type of person to enjoy the hostel environment so do think carefully. Some of our recommendations are:
Globetrotter Inn – being central is not a necessaity here in London as the transport links are extremely good. This hostel is more like a resort with Supermarket, Bar, Self Catering Kitchen (they even do your washing up!) and an evening menu if you decide not to cook!
Generator – centrally located the Generator has long been known for it’s party atmosphere. So if it’s a quiet stay you’re after don’t head here!
Palmers Lodge – a fabulous conversion of his Victorian grade II listed building, has received a substantial refurbishment to restore it to original condition. Offers free WI-FI throughout. Voted Visit London Best Hostel in 2007.
